One of the most fascinating archaeological destinations in the country has open to the public: the Tunnel of Eupalinos in Samos Island.

The Tunnel of Eupalinos or Eupalinian aqueduct is one of the largest technical works of ancient Greece, constructed in 530 BC.The engineer responsible for designing and building the ancient project -named by Herodotus- is Eupalinus of Megara.He created a 1036 meter long tunnel through mount Ampelos to water the city of Sámos now called Pythagorion.

In 1992 UNESCO declared the area of Eupalinos aqueduct a World Cultural Heritage site.If you plan to visit the tunnel get prepared for a life time experience!
